1. day: BARI
Arrival and accommodation in hotel in Bari.
A visit to the old town which will not miss during a visit to the Teatro Petruzzelli, location of numerous film (Polvere di Stelle di Alberto Sordi, Giselle di Herbert Ross, …).

The Petruzzelli theatre is one of the most famous symbols of Bari.It was built between 1898 and 1903, in reply to Bari's cultural needs and ambitions.
It had a capacity for 3200 spectators (now 1500...the 4th Italian theatre in size) and it was characterized by a great artistical wealth.
Opened in 1903 with the performation of the "Ugonotti" by Meyerber, this theatre became one of the most important theatre in Italy and Europe, not only a lyric temple but a great container of all kinds of culture: many world artists.
Unfortunately, on 27. October 1991, after the performance of the "Norma", an arson destroyed the theatre, leaving a big wound on Bari and on its cultural heritage.

The Petruzzelli Theatre has been restored to its former glory and officially reopened on 4. October 2009 with the 9th Sinfony by Beethoven...Finally it was returned to the city and it has once again become the hub of cultural life in Bari.

2. day: Valle D’Itria (Alberobello, Ostuni, Castellana Grotte)
Breakfast and departure to the Itria Valley where, bathed in light and in the quiet of the countryside, we will be enchanted by the characteristic Trulli, by the beautiful olive groves and by the white farms, surrounded by stone walls and often fortified with towers and bastions.

We will not miss a visit to the capital of the trulli, Alberobello, World Heritage Site, also unusual setting of film productions.
A few kilometers away, the deep caves of Castellana will allow us to follow the paths carved thousands of years ago by underground rivers, until you reach the Grotta Bianca, white radiance of light and reflections produced by the limestone stalactites and stalagmites.

On the same day we will reach the white town of Ostuni, so named for its distinctive façade of the houses whitewashed to defend in the past themselves from the plague.

Tonight we overnight in a wonderful farm, among the olive trees and the light of the Northern side of Salento countryside.

Hidden between plants of prickly pears of the fields around San Vito dei Normanni, a jewel of rock contains a cycle of frescoes dedicated to Jesus Christ. A short visit before heading to our farm will reveal us the skill of the medieval painters that covered these areas of Byzantine and Benedictine crypts.

3. day: Salento (Lecce and Otranto)
Today we travel South to reach Lecce, a baroque jewel. Among the narrow streets of the old town, the sumptuous Baroque facades, ancient walls and gates of the city, the remains of a Roman amphitheater, several national and international film.

Amongst the aristocratic houses of the old town, we will not fail to be fooled by the workshops of papier-mâché objects and crafts, and we won’t miss to taste a pasticciotto or a puccia.

In the afternoon, let’s take the opportunity to get to Otranto, steeped in the East. Outpost of Western domination, Otranto was often conquered by the Turks, of whom we still feel the ancient domination thaks to the architecture. The Aragonese Castle, the Cathedral of the martyrs, which houses the skulls of martyrs killed by the Turks in 1480, Porta Terra, ... are backdrop to the masterpiece of the small village

4. day: Matera, the town of Sassi and of cinema
Today we reach Matera, famous firstly for the Sassi districts literally carved into the rock. Among the experts in scouting location, the city is also well known for the natural landscapes that are offered to the eye. There are at least 40, in fact, the films from 1949 were shot in the city. Surely, a favorite set are the facades of houses perched on the cave walls of deep ravines, ancient rock-hewn churches of Byzantine and Benedictine communities that dot the Sassi and Murgia, farms, jazzi, clay pits, tanks, ...

5. day: Melfi and the places of Aglianico red wine
Today we move to Melfi, situated on a hill of volcanic origin at the foot of Mount Vulture, in the north-west of the Basilicata. We find ourselves in the lands of Frederick II of Swabia, where the great emperor gave free rein to his passion for falconry and where, from the castle of Melfi, issued the Costitutiones Melfitanes. Among the cultivated fields of wheat, at St. Leonard, was shot in 2002 Io non ho paura by Salvatores film Oscar nominee and winner of numerous awards.

Arisen on the slopes of an extinct volcano, the villages of the area are famous for the historical production of the delicious Alianico del Vulture, red wine among the most appreciated. One of them is the small village of Barile, Arberesh of origin, among which volcanic caves were acclimatized drops of Pasolini's masterpiece, Il Vangelo secondo Matteo. Many of these caves are now renowned wineries, whose quality is recognized at international level. It is precisely here, in the seventeenth century cellars of the notary, who will visit the underground caves and taste local dishes and wines.

6. day: Craco, Bernalda, Maratea
Today we cross the river valleys of Agri and Sinni to reach the west coast of Basilicata, where we expect, beautiful and haughty, Maratea.

The first stop will succeed in Craco, the ghost town, abandoned due to landslides in the 60s. Among the gutted houses by landslides and the silence of the countryside planted with olive trees and wheat, were shot admirable scenes of Italian and international films

In the Monastry of St. Peter view of an exibition and of a show real on the most famous movies filmed in Aliano. Latera, light lunch preparred by local women.

Stop over in Bernalda, the town of Francis Ford Coppola’s family. The famous director opened Palazzo Margherita, beautiful relais that frequently guest members of the cinema entourage. At the caffè of the Palazzo, Cinecittà, you will have a short break before to leave towards Maratea.

A light walk on the sandy Ionian beach before to transfer to Maratea, on the steps of the crazy travellers of the movie Basilicata coast to coast by Papaleo.

On the cliffs steep on the Gulf of Policastro, stands proudly the statue of Christ that overlooks it. The small town, which today is a little lounge of Basilicata, has been the scene of A porte chiuse by Dino Risi 1960 and, among others, also some scenes of a movie in the saga of James Bond 007 Quantum of Salacious 2008 .

7. Relaxing day
On board a boat, we will sail along the beautiful Gulf of Policastro. Lunch on board with a plate of spaghetti (on own) and enjoying the sea, the day before our departure.
Tonight we will celebrate the end of the tour with a dinner of fish.

1. day: Castel del Monte e Trani
After breakfast, we move to Trani, a nice town on the Adriatic Sea. A visit to Trani and its magnificent historical centre made of Trani stones and buildings, churches, a visit to the port to admire the Federick II Castle which dominates the sea, is an unforgettable experience for any visitor sensitive to artistic beauty.
The Romanesque Cathedral, dedicated to San Nicola Pelligrino (1097), a magnificent building in front of the sea, became a reference point for navigators
Trani was the location of many movies of the Italian comedy of 70s,
Not far from Trani, the magnificent castle of Fedrick II, with an unusual octagolan shape. World heritage of Unesco, it was even a location for some scenes of Il nome della rosa, by the romano f Umberto Eco.

2. day: Lucera
Today we move to Lucera, rich of history and monuments, such as the roman ruins, the castle, the cathedral dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta. Here the first movie settled in Apulia was film, in the 1023: Maria, vieni a Marcello by Jovine, inspired to a stabbing really happened in Neaples in the 20s. Moreover, the Italian Troisi fund here inspiration to move Le vie del Signore sono finite in the 1987. Finally, in the 1976 Pasquale Festa Campanile filmed here Il soldato di ventura.
Back to Trani for dinner and overnight stay.
