Southern Italy Tour of 10 days and 9 nights: Walk and food adventures from the Amalfi coast to Puglia.


Day 1: Naples
Arrival at Naples international airport or to the station (to be defined), transfer to the city centre. POSSIBILITY (NOT INCLUDED, see the suppl.) to taste the famous Neapolitan PIZZA in a typical restaurant in Naples. We depart for a sightseeing tour (with English speaking guide) of the city. We will visit Castel dell’Ovo (The ‘Egg Castle’), Piazza Plebiscito with its beautiful church situated in front of the Royal Palace and surrounded by eight statues of the Kings of the Neapolitan Kingdom. Piazza Plebiscito is also the home of the National Library which contains an extraordinary collection of more than one million and half books and other volumes discovered in Ercolano. Transfer to your farm house (or 3* hotel / depending on the availability) by private bus. All lodgings are situated in small hamlets surrounding Sorrento such as, Vico Equense, Agerola, Sant’Agata, Massa Lubrense, Massaquano and San Maria del Castello. Accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Capri: The paths of Napoleon’s fortresses
After breakfast transfer to Sorrento. Sea crossing by ferry to Capri. A guide will be waiting and together you can explore this beautiful island. The trek to 'Sentiero dei Fortini Napoleonici' will last about 3 hours (medium difficulty). By bus we will arrive close to the 'Blue Grotto', where the walk will start. The path connects the grotto with the Faro of Punta Carena (Anacapri). Beginning from the western side of the island, we will circle the Fortini, built in 1806 by the English during the Napoleonic wars and then later developed by the French after the conquest of the Island in 1808. LUNCH on own (NOT INCLUDED – see the suppl.). In the afternoon you are free to explore other small footpaths suggested by the guide or to explore other aspects of this heavenly island. In the late afternoon return to Sorrento by ferry and transfer to your farm (or 3* hotel) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Pompei / Vesuvius and wine tasting
After breakfast depart by bus for Pompeii, one of the most famous archaeological sites (entrance fee included / free entrance for people with +65 years) in the world. This ancient commercial city was engulfed by the Vesuvian eruption of 79 AD and remained hidden and forgotten for hundreds of years. In this ancient city, with our guide, we will discover the many secrets and main monuments of the Roman era, and at the same time, revisit the emotional story of this once thriving city. LUNCH on own (NOT INCLUDED – see the suppl.). After, we will depart for Vesuvius (entrance fee included). We will visit then a farm and in its small wine cellar we will taste the high quality local wine. Return to your farm (or 3* hotel) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Sentiero degli Dei (Pathway of the Gods)
Breakfast and transfer by bus to Agerola. In Bomerano we will meet our tour guide for the marvellous Sentiero degli Dei excursion- one of the most beautiful landscape walks of the area (about 6 hours for an distance of 9,5 Km.). We recommend you don’t miss this excursion, as it is a simple walk with incredible views of the Amalfi Coast, one of the most spectacular coastlines in Italy. This walk takes us up to a sheer cliff, where we can experience a most unforgettable panorama. LUNCH on own (NOT INCLUDED). The guide will also give a talk on the geological history of the Monti Lattari. Return to the farm (or 3* hotel) for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: The laboratory of buffalo mozzarella
After breakfast, departure by bus for Battipaglia’s area to visit a cheese factory that produces the famous buffalo mozzarella. We will visit an Estate, with over 600 buffaloes, and see the different phases of artisan mozzarella, still entirely made by hand. Tasting of cheese products and departure for the Lucanian Dolomites,
with spectacular spiers and shapes. Visit of the small villages of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa, fashinating medieval villages defended and protected by the stony Dolomites. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6 Walking on the Lucanian Dolomites - The cooking lesson with the Bandit menù
After breakfast, move on to the Saracen fortress of Pietrapertosa, almost entirely carved out of rock and offering a great panoramic view of the Basento valley. Then on foot from the castle we take a trail that descends to the Caperrino river, passes over an ancient bridge and ascends up to Castelmezzano, all the while being towered over by the spectacular Pietrapertosa Dolomites. Visit the village and picnic at the castle. Back to Pietrapertosa following the same path.
In the afternoon, cookery course with the Bandit Menu, which allows you to discover the traditional tastes of cooking in Lucania in 1870. Have lunch with the Bandits!!! Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Matera, the town of dwellings and rock churches
After breakfast, an unusual itinerary into the Sassi districts, a UNESCO Heritage Site, discovering the hidden town of Matera. A walk amongst cave hauses, wine cellars, rock churches with beautiful frescoes.
Dinner in a cave restaurant. Overnight

DAY 8: Cave Villages and Montescaglioso
Here you’ll take a short trip on the Matera Moors to discover the treasures of rock civilization and its unique flora and fauna. Route: the Grotta dei Pipistrelli (cave of bats), the Jazzo di Lamaquacchiola, the Cristo la Selva cave and the Saraceno village. Pack-lunch at the Cristo la Selva village. In the afternoon transfer by local bus to visit the town of Montescaglioso with its ancient Abbey of S. Michele Arcangelo. Back to Matera by bus, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 9: The bred laboratory and Alberobello - 1 hour driving
After visiting a bakery in Altamura, and tasted the typical loca bread made of durum wheat, we will transfer to Itria Valley and visit Alberobello, World Heritage, site and home to thousands of curious round stone “trulli”, white dry-stone houses with conical roofs made of lapidary stones. Inside, the trulli have
a square central room communicating with the other rooms
of the hause via arches.
Back to Matera for a farewell dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: transfer to Bari or Brindisi airport
